Dear Hiring Professionals,

I harbour great interest in applying for an Internship with Shell Eastern Petroleum as a Process Engineer which I learned about from the official website. I am extremely keen to learn more about Process Engineering through firsthand experience.

I have been very passionate about processes since a very young age. This interest and passion continued to grow and in my Junior College years, I took part in a research project organised by the Data Storage Institute (A*Star). In this project, I had to design a microchip with the aid of the professors for the storage of data. I learned many skills such as doing extensive research through reading of literature reviews and conducting experiments.  I feel that my fervour in understanding processes and the experience I acquired such as data manipulation and organisation will be an asset to the team.

I enjoy challenging myself to new experiences and have worked as a sales assistant at Fashion Giant Prada and as a Production Assistant at World Sport Group. I believe that the experiences and skills that I have developed there would be useful during the internship. My experience in both the fashion industry and broadcast company makes me very versatile and adaptable to different situations. From my experience there, I am used to working under stressful situations and meeting important deadlines. My drive to inspire others resulted in me holding important positions, both at the school and National level.

I consider the possibility of doing an internship at Shell Eastern Petroleum an excellent opportunity for me to develop my analytical skills as well as to gain firsthand experience of engineering from a company with a proven track record globally. Also, it is one of my major endeavours to contribute to the success of the company.

The enclosed resume provides more of my skills and achievements track record. I believe that with my skills and experience, I will be a valuable asset to your company. You can contact me at (+65) 81384920. I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely,
Ramandeep Singh

  1. Hi,
I really liked your letter. It is a good example on how to relate your work experience and skills to the specific needs of the employer.
In the next to last paragraph, You should emphasize more the assets that you are going to contribuate in the company, rather than to focus on the skills that you are going to develop in your work..

  2. Hi Ramandeep,

Great job in relating your experiences to the needs of the employer in your letter!

Agree with Nesrine that instead of focusing on your development, you should specify how you are able to contribute to the company, and perhaps why you have chosen the company.

I find the phrase of 'consider the possibility' a little awkward though, maybe just my own opinion here. Maybe you can just say that you 'view' the internship as an excellent opportunity'.

    Cheers!
